In either pane, clicking an object selects that object. If you select a container in the left pane, the right pane shows its contents. In the left pane, you can only select one object at a time. In the right pane, you can select several objects at a time by holding the Shift button while you click.

Right-clicking an object displays a popup menu of commands for that object.
